Dimensions of learning
Our programmes focus on three different dimensions of learning to ensure that you enjoy an immersive experience and benefit as much as possible from your time with us.
Our programmes focus on three different dimensions of learning to ensure that you enjoy an immersive experience and benefit as much as possible from your time with us.
From the 17th century onwards, aristocratic, young British men and women, would travel for many months or years, on cultural adventures to key European countries. The ‘Grand Tour’ was seen as an educational rite of passage to develop a sophisticated and cultured mindset, to expand knowledge and to complete a young person’s education. It brought with it an air of accomplishment and prestige. Our programmes revive the concept and spirit of the Grand Tour for the 21st century.
Whilst few of us today have the time for such a leisurely pursuit of knowledge, our learning programmes offer adults and families an insider’s guide to a subject, combining privileged access to people and places. They involve world-class institutions and specialists to teach you and access to places unavailable to the general public; it could be living in a stunning private house or behind-the-scenes at one of our famous museums, galleries or universities to see specialist works of art or specimens.
We also know that the easiest way to learn is when you’re active, having fun and engaged. Our programmes combine a variety of activities, from workshops to interactive sessions, ensuring that you are learning by doing!
Our 2018 programme dates are listed below. If you would like to take part in a learning programme on a different date to those stated below, we would be very happy to discuss this with you.
